Roxy’s Glass Company San Jose – Supplying Your Low E Glass Requirements

At Roxy’s Glass Company San Jose, we pride ourselves in taking the lead in the supply and repair of glass in San Jose. Over the years, glass has become an increasingly popular building material. You only have to look at the skylines of some of the world’s biggest cities to notice this.

As glass has become more energy-efficient over the years, so it has grown on acclaim. So how have we achieved universal acceptance for glass in the construction industry?

The use of low-E glass is one reason. Low- E is a colorless coating that is applied to the glass during manufacture.

How low-E works

The sun emits three types of light

Ultra-violet light – the very light that fades your fabrics and other materials

Infra-red light – transmits heat into the structure

Visible light – falls in the middle of the solar spectrum between the ultra-violet and infrared light.

Low-E films prevent infrared and ultra-violet light from entering through the window. Yet, it doesn’t obstruct visible light. The first low-E glass films hit the market in 1975.

Should you buy low-E from the San Jose Glass Company?

Low-E glass has both advantages and disadvantages

Advantages of low-E glass

Save on energy costs – the film blocks most of the solar radiation, saving on utility costs

UV protection – damaging UV-rays heat up the building. They also cause fading and damage on fabrics, carpets and other household goods.

It doesn’t block out the visible ray spectrum so you lose the heat and not the light.

Disadvantages of low-E glass

Cost – low-E glass is not cheap. Still, you should weigh the cost against the benefit of fabrics and floor coverings that retain their color over time.

It blocks out the heat – if you live in a warm area, this may not present a problem. Still, if you depend on the sun to keep the chill off the air low-E glass will prevent this.
